Upcoming
EVENT: Track at AMCIS
08, Aug. 14-17, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Upcoming:
"Application of Agents and Intelligent Information Technologies." Sugumaran, V. (ed.). Idea Group Publishing, Hershey, London
Positioning The Special
Interest Group on Agent-Based Information Systems (SIGABIS) is
advancing knowledge in the use of agent-based IS, which includes
complex adaptive systems and simulation experiments, to improve organizational
performance. SIGABIS promises to fill an existing gap in the field
and, therefore, is more focused on the strategic and business issues
with agent technology and less on the artifact itself, such as computational
algorithms, which are well investigated by computer science related research
groups.
Purpose The agent
metaphor has become popular in mainstream computing and business schools
largely due to its suitability for the study of distributed systems,
such as the Internet and the Web. Distributed systems are increasingly
becoming commonplace in applications such as manufacturing, business networks,
channel relationships, ubiquitous information access, and grid computing.
We expect to see the
emergence of new distribution channel structures and customer
interfaces (e.g., 1-to-1 customization, recommendation 'engines'),
supply chain topologies (e.g., virtual business networks), and
market-making mechanisms that use new kinds of intelligent, distributed
computational processes in the form of agents.
Mission SIGABIS
is a forum to bring together like-minded researchers, teachers, and practitioners
to:
Collaborate in
rigorously building agent-based computational theory and practice.
Promote the advantages
of agent-based computational modeling.
Advance scientific
research in areas that can benefit from agent-based techniques.
Introduction
to Agent-based IS
Please visit our RESOURCES section
for an introduction to agent-based modeling (ABM), multi-agent system
(MAS) and complex adaptive system (CAS)
modeling as well as discrete event simulation.

to Members
Please
Show Your Support and Join this SIG
We promote
theory building in select core areas: Please check our RESEARCH
AREAS section.
We organize
workshops, sessions, meetings, and other networking opportunities:
Please check our EVENTS section
for announcements and past events.
We point
to research and teaching RESOURCES.
We
publish SIGABIS Exchanges.
Subscribing
to our Listserv (under construction)
If you are
a member of the Association for Information Systems (AIS) please
join
this SIG for $10/year.
If you are
not a member of AIS you will need to join
AIS first ($65/year academic, $40/year student).
If you have
questions about joining this SIG please don't hesitate to contact
the Chair.
Publications
In order to better fulfill its mission SIGABIS facilitates publishing
and quick dissemination of research findings in its focal area.
SIGABIS Exchanges:
We regularly publish research findings and
community updates, as well as one Research Note per issue. Contributors
include Al Hevner, Steven Kimbrough and Sal March.
